As I prepare for the start of the work week, I am compelled to share with you how I plan on keeping my work space clutter free for a zen state of mind. I spend most of my time at work, so it only makes sense to keep my work space in order. I was recently inspired by one of my colleagues, whose work space always remains impeccably clean and clutter free, to do the same with my work space. I noticed she always remains cool, calm and collected, even during stressful times. And then in the words of Oprah, I had an “Ah Ha” moment:

Clutter Free Work Space = Calm, Zen State of Mind

With this discovery, I went on a purging spree of all irrelevant items on my desk, and made a vow to keep my work space clutter free at all costs.

Here are a couple of pointers that has helped me with achieving this goal…

#1: Going Electronic: Technology is truly a blessing, so saving all your documents on share/hard drives, makes the need for hard copy paper unnecessary. An added bonus? You will be saving the planet by reducing paper waste.


#2: If you are like me who loves hard copy documents, get rid of those you haven’t opened in the past 6 months (believe me, this document purge is very essential for your clutter free mindset).

#3: For those must-keep paper work, documents and magazines, file them in black folders. Aesthetically, this makes your work space look cleaner and more streamlined.



#4: Avoid eating at your desk. Look for a spare room or area to have your meals. Leaving your work space for meals, not only keeps unnecessary rodents and dirt away from your desk, but also gives you an opportunity to truly unwind from work during your meal breaks.

Drinking water is allowed though, as long as you wipe down any spills. I always encourage water drinking at all times, as it’s good for your skin :)

#5: Always keep a little piece of home with you. A picture, an item, anything special, definitely keeps the “joy” alive.


#6: Lastly, consider having colorful stationary (i.e. notepads). Believe me, they do brighten up the day while adding a punch of personality to your work space. Another “joyism” for your life :)

    Hey hey hey! So glad to have found your blog again! Adding you to my blog list pronto :-). I may know a thing or two about organizing a closet, but my desk is another issue. Whenever my desk is disorganized it means I’m not motivated. I eat at my desk too, which is such a bad habit and I plan on stopping that. Colorful stationery and a piece of home of home definitely does wonders for my work space, so great tip!

      Awwwww @tidyupgal, thanks for the love…Much appreciated…I know, eating at my desk is such a bad habit . But anytime I think of my desk in its chaotic state; I am motivated not to eat there any longer…We can do it together :)
